The first Arena of Faith (AOF) LAN tournament at the YGG Play Summit ended on November 19, 2024, with SylphyT1 of YGG guild partner Sylphy Academy announced as the battle’s winning team. Four teams participated in the tournament with a US$10,000 total prize pool on the line, of which US$4,000 in USDT was granted to SylphyT1, composed of players Syl, Stephy, Lrdgrim, Fer and Pelfi.
“The tournament experience was amazing, but we came in as the favorites, so there was a lot of pressure and expectations for us to perform,” said Syl. “We see this win as the start of our journey to dominate web3 esports across all genres and be the best esports community in the Philippines. We’re on our way, with our players competing across the different tournaments at the YGG Play Summit.”
Arena of Faith is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game from Super Esports and Vortex Labs. It integrates blockchain elements such as NFTs and onchain logic to open up additional features for players. These include staking, fully onchain mods, and tournament hosting. Investors and partners of the game include Tencent, Animoca Brands, Immutable, Metis, Banter Capital, Initiate Capital, ChainHill Capital, and Yield Guild Games.
Arena of Faith Business Development Manager Ariel Edria presented Sylphy Academy as the championship winner. The AOF tournament was held the same day as the tournament for Animoca Brands’ chess-based strategy game, Anichess, which saw johnfdong win an arduous battle against seven other participants. Two more tournaments are lined up this week — one for the SuperGaming-built battle royale Indus, set for Wednesday, November 20, and the US$100,000 YGG Play Summit invitational for the hit trading card game Parallel on Friday, November 21.
“The Arena of Faith tournament helps bring a wider audience to the YGG Play Summit, especially those interested in competition and the highest level of play,” said abcd, YGG Pilipinas Community Gaming and Data Specialist. “Tournaments like this help bring more excitement and engagement to attendees and showcase one of the career paths available in web3.”
Outside the esports tournaments, the five-day YGG Play Summit has more events lined up, including the first in-person GAM3 Awards, a cosplay competition, and the red-carpet premiere of “Metaverse Filipino Worker,” a five-part series exploring how Filipinos are embracing web3 as a new frontier for work.
Event attendees also have the opportunity to experience demos of new and upcoming web3 games at the event’s Gamer Expo, with 30 projects participating. Showmatches will likewise be held throughout the event, featuring well-known web3 personalities as players and shoutcasters.
